Manufacturing software in Mexico and Colombia: a practical guide to digitizing operations

In many plants across Mexico and Colombia, production is still coordinated through a mix of ERP, Excel, WhatsApp, paper on the shop floor, and tribal knowledge. The ERP knows that an order exists, but it does not always know what happened on the line, which lot had deviations, which machine was down, or why a shipment left late.

- Product catalog, BOM or recipes, routings, and work centers.
- Real order states: scheduled, in progress, paused, completed, blocked.
- Roles and permissions by shift, line, supervisor, quality, and maintenance.
- Lot, serial, expiration, rework, and release rules.
- Available integrations: ERP API, database, flat files, or middleware.
- Which data must return to the ERP and which data only lives in the operational layer.

A well-scoped first manufacturing module usually starts with one line, one product family, or one flow: production orders, quality, traceability, or maintenance. The real scope depends less on screen count and more on master-data quality, ERP integration, and process variability.

- Designing from the office without observing a real production shift.
